HEY, IT'S BEEN A MINUTE...
So, its been a couple months since the dust has settled on the Kukuburi Kickstarter campaign. I had hoped to write earlier - but the days have been rather non-stop.
Firstly, and most importantly, I'd like to thank all of you as subscribers of my newsletter you made up for 6% of backers to the campaign. While that number may seem small - it is actually a significant portion! So THANK YOU so much for the support - I am truly elated by your kindness. The overall campaign came in at $56,694.00 CAD with a total of 885 backers. Truly awesome.
The campaign is scheduled for fulfilment in January 2023. I am currently refining the opening chapter of the book - as what I had done was split my original 'first book' into two to make it more manageable. This means finessing story elements - and making, in my humble opinion, a better book and a stronger overarching story. Once all this is locked in - I will move ahead and begin drawing new content, and designing the book. To which I am truly excited.
If you did not back the campaign but would eventually like the book - it will become available in the spring of 2023 via RAIDpress.com
I will roll into regular updates on the Kukuburi campaign here, and also via Kickstarter beginning in the Fall!
ABOVE / a digital mockup of Kukuburi volume 1 - this was an asset I used during the campaign. But by no means final. I'll be doing a fresh cover that encapsulates this first book in the Kukuburi series - and I'll share it here first.
CURRENTLY ON MY PLATE, KUKUBURI ASIDE...
It's hard to believe we're in the latter half of 2022 already. The year has blurred by! What you can expect from me in the months to come...
Stillwater, published by Skybound and authored by Chip Zdarsky with art by me - will be coming to a close this year. I am currently working on the art for the last several issues. And while this is a sad occasion - as I will truly miss working on the series - I am also excited to embark on fresh endeavours in the new year.
A 48-page comic that I wish I could tell you more about - all I can say is it's set in 1950's New York and revolves around the jazz scene - and it's a part of a greater series by a phenomenal set of artists! I'll share more when I can!
As this year ends, and I put the finishing touches on Kukuburi Volume 1, I'll be diving into Kukuburi Volume 2 in 2023 and making it and another personal project, an original stand-along graphic novel, my primary endeavours of the new year.
I'm SUPER EXCITED for the year to come, and the potential it brings.
ABOVE / A sketch of my beloved Payaso - from our first studio anthology; RAID ONE. I tell weird stories --- and love weird characters --- and you'll be seeing more of Payaso, my katana-wielding clown, in the year to come.
CONVENTIONS!
As we slowly peek our heads out of our Covid caves of solitude and head out to conventions - I thought I'd share some of the ones I'll be attending over the next several months in case they're in your neighbourhood...
FAN EXPO CANADA / August 25-28 Toronto, ON, Canada.
JORNADAS DEL CÓMIC DE AVILÉS / September 6-10 Avilés, Spain.
COMIC CROSSROADS (CXC) / October 8-9 Columbus, OH, USA
LIGHTBOX EXPO / October 14-16, Pasadena, CA, USA
It's a busy year, but a fun one. I hope I can see some of you at one of these great events!
All the best,
Ramón.
PS/ OH YEAHHHHH - we got a contest still to run!
This month's skill testing question is... What was the MARVEL comic I worked on that was based on a novel?
PPS/ I'm always striving to make this newsletter more robust and entertaining for YOU. So, please, Let me know what sort of things you'd like to see!
PS / I'm taking the time to build out my community and I thank you all for being a part of that - your support is truly appreciated.
If you like this newsletter, and my stuff, you can support by also…
