BETTER LATE THAN NEVER…
Arriving a bit tardy with the newsletter as last week saw me wrapping up the second story arc of Stillwater and taking a moment to catch my breath. Enjoyed the novelty of seeing a few movies in theatre as well. The Green Knight, a beautifully layered visual masterpiece, Suicide Squad, a rollicking romp of fun and silliness, and Free Guy which was just fresh, fun, and original - recommend ‘em all!
MAKE SH!T MONDAYS continues weekly, giving me a great opportunity to chat with fellow creators, draw, and let my imagination wander. It’s been a re-invigorating experience. A few weeks ago saw me sketch out The Abominable Charles Christopher during our chat with Karl Kerschl - which you can see below.
I’m also trying to post more actively on my Instagram - which I find rather difficult given my schedule. But I’m trying. Currently, on the grid, I’m sharing process on some of the favourite covers I’ve done throughout my career. While in my IG stories I hope to start sharing a bit more on current projects - like Stillwater, some Kukuburi pre-launch sneak-peeks, and very very soon some live inking sessions on an upcoming yet un-announced project.
Till then though, please enjoy the rest of this month’s shenanigans…
R4ID
Between working on the third arc of Stillwater and colouring Kukuburi pages for the upcoming re-launch (yes, I know I’m crazy) I am also currently working on a short story titled AIR that will be premiering in R4ID - the fourth volume in our RAID stand-alone studio anthology series! I LOVE LOVE LOVE anthologies as I believe they are a great outlet for creators to experiment and do things they might not normally have the opportunity to do.
I’ll be sharing some my process for AIR next month - but should you be inclined you can see and discover more in the RAID bi-monthly newsletter as we showcase all the creators involved! R4ID launches on Kickstarter in late September!

UNBOXING!
Outside of creating stories and art, one of the things I’m most passionate about is book design. I don’t get to do it often, but when able to I seize the opportunity. Last week, fresh off the press, the hardcover edition of Mr. Monster, The Original Adventures of Doc. Stearne, a book I designed arrived at our studio doorstep and I couldn’t be prouder. If you’re interested in experiencing another facet of what I do (and enjoy some Canadian comic history) you can purchase the book at RAIDpress.com.
In the meantime, here’s a happy me unboxing the freshly printed arrival…
The first five people to email me the full name of Daniel’s friend that was shot and killed in Stillwater #1 will win a signed copy of that very same issue. Contest closes at noon EST!
FOL’KLOR by CARY NORD
Today my good friend and artistic maestro Cary Nord is launching his Kickstarter for his epic fantasy series FOL’KLOR! This is some of the most stunning work I’ve seen Cary produce and I am as eager as anyone to hold this book in my hands! Please back and support this amazing project if you can.
LAS JORNADAS DEL CÓMIC DE AVILÉS
For those in Europe, or at the very least, Northern Spain, I will be attending the 26th annual Avilés Comic Book Expo! This will be my second visit to this wonderful and unique show that brings together some of the best authors of the ninth art. For a few days, fans, friends, and fellow creators coexist and intermingle in the towns local square rather than in a claustrophobic convention centre.
Date: September 7-11, 2021.
Place: Plaza Domingo Álvarez Acebal and Casa de Cultura de Avilés.
For more information and programming visit their FACEBOOK PAGE - and if you can’t make it feast your eyes on this stunning event poster for this year’s show by Pepe Larraz… 😍
MAKE SH!T MONDAYS
Last week long time friend and fellow webcomics creator Danielle Corsetto joined Eric and I on Make SH!T Mondays and we had a great conversation! If you missed the episode, you can enjoy it HERE.
TONIGHT though we'll be chatting with the talented Cully Hamner! Please join us, get involved in the conversation, or just draw along! We stream LIVE simultaneously to the RAID Facebook Page and the RAID YouTube channel every Monday from 8-10pm EDT.
That's all for this week. Thank you for reading, and hope you have a great week!
- Ramón.
PS / I'm taking the time to build out my community and I thank you all for being a part of that - your support is truly appreciated.
If you like this newsletter, and my stuff, you can support by also…
Ordering something from the RAID shop (I'll personalize it just for you, just mention my newsletter!)
Back a Kickstarter when I launch one (I'm planning to launch my first campaign; Kukuburi volume 1 in April 2022) or if RAID launches one (we're prepping to launch our 4th RAID anthology shortly, in which I'll have a short story.)
Share the newsletter with a friend (every little bit helps!)
THANK YOU.
